A Brief History of West Adams

West Adams is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles dating to the late 1800's. When it was first developed it was considered one of the wealthiest, with residents who were business men and Downtown academics nearby USC. With the development of the Westside, Beverly Hills and Hollywood the white population left being replaced by upper-class African American population. Notable residents include Little Richard, Ray Charles, Hattie McDaniel, Joe Louis and Sweet Daddy Grace. 

West Adams has a wide variety of residential architecture including Queen Anne, Shingle, Gothic Revival, Transitional Arts and Crafts, American Craftsman/Ultimate Bungalow, Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial Revival, Renaissance Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, Mission Revival, Egyptian Revival, Beaux-Arts and Neoclassical which are still intact.

John Wolf is a global art advisor based in Los Angeles. He founded John Wolf Art Advisory & Brokerage in 2009 to assist private collectors, institutions, and corporations in creating outstanding collections of contemporary art. Outside of the traditional art advisory and brokerage, Wolf both consults with institutions and fairs and curates exhibitions. He has spoken on panels at Art Miami, Art Silicon Valley, produced exhibitions at 4619 in Los Angeles, and is a member of LACMA’s Modern and Contemporary Art Council (MCAC).
